Non-tendered infielders offer intriguing options

Posted by [email protected] on Comments comments (0)

Over the span of three days last week, the Cubs acquired a utility infielder, parted ways with another and then ended up with neither one in the fold. On the surface, it was a head-scratching series of transactions, but consider it a fact-gathering process for Chicago.

When the Cubs swung a deal with the Yankees on Wednesday to reel in Ronald Torreyes

A Critic Thinks This River North Spot Has ‘Superbly Indulgent Bar Bites’

Posted by [email protected] on Comments comments (0)

Good Measure is a punk-tinged spot with “upgraded classic cocktails and superbly indulgent bar bites,” writes Maggie Hennessy. The cozy bar makes a mean Penicillin — described as a “smoky ode to autumn” — while a “perfectly balanced” cosmo features aronia berry liqueur in lieu of cranberry juice. Back in the kitchen, che...

Chicago Bears Sackwatch 2018: Week 15 vs. Green Bay Packers

Posted by [email protected] on Comments comments (0)

Only one sack allowed to break down this week for the Chicago Bears in their division clinching game against the Green Bay Packers. I thought Mitchell Trubisky was deft in avoiding the Packer pass rush all afternoon and this was a big game in the development of the young quarter...

Tommy La Stella Has Been Traded to the Angels

One of baseball’s best pinch-hitters is moving to the American League:

The Cubs have traded infielder Tommy La Stella to the Los Angeles Angels for a player to be named later or cash considerations. La Stella posted a .266/.340/.331 slash line in 192 plate appearances last year and owned a .273/.356/.397 triple slash in his four-year stint with the Cubs. The move also clears a roster space, as the 40-man now sits at 39.

Moving La Stella comes a day after the Cubs acquired ut...

CHICAGO (WLS) --

Everyone deserves a little spooky Halloween spirit, and the Shedd Aquarium and Brookfield Zoo made sure even their animals got in on the festivities.

The enrichment teams at both locations gave animals Halloween treats and seasonal decorations before the holiday.

At the Shedd, skeletons, jack-o'-lanterns, gourds and skulls were put in some exhibits. Some of the decorations are edible, while others provide animals a chance...

Writers's Twelfth Night doesn't quite achieve greatness, but it's still good fizzy fun

Posted by [email protected] on Comments comments (0)

Fortunately for Writers Theatre, the highly implausible claim on its website that Twelfth Night "has never felt more relevant" isn't the funniest thing about the production. However, what it lacks in relevance, it makes up for in actual humor, with a blend of broad slapstick and dry wit.

Scott Parkinson steals the entire show as the hilariously affected Sir Andrew Aguecheek, often commanding full belly laughs. He flounces...

With the merger of Ogden and Jenner elementary schools underway, Chicago Public Schools earlier this month removed the well-respected principal of the former from his post of three years. Dr. Michael Beyer, who's worked for the district since 2003 and has earned accolades as a principal, was accused by the Chicago Board of Education's inspector general of falsifying attendance records across Ogden's three K-12 campuses comprising some 1,900 students. Now Beyer is suing the sc...

Chiusura alle 21 dei negozi “etnici”? Una misura incostituzionale e controproducente

Posted by [email protected] on Comments comments (0)
